AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT and Radeon RX 5700 Review
At a time when we felt Nvidia was able to confirm its supremacy with the new GeForce RTX Super Series, AMD played a tried-and-true card while lowering prices to gain profits. Nvidia made its debut to hurt AMD as much as possible and to prevent favorable comparisons against its own offerings, and for a few days the upcoming forums were written "dead in the water" in online forums and discussions. We may never know if AMD has planned this surprise all the time, or whether it resonates in frustration in anticipation of their launch, but we have to be one of the best examples we've ever seen How competition benefits customers.

Formerly the "NAVI" codename, the RDNA (Radeon DNA) architecture supports the new Radeon RX 5700 GPU for years. It replaces GCN (graphics-based Next) designs that AMD has replicated from the last few generations. It is interesting that this is the same infrastructure that will be found in future next-generation PlayStation and Xbox consoles as well as AMD's semi-custom GPU for Google Stadia and potential Samsung smartphones.
Fans were hoping that AMD might be able to pull out the full reinforcement of the GPU as it did with the Zen processor architecture, and the company said that the rDNA was designed from the ground up. This is a major improvement over the minor improvements of the GCN that we have seen since the year 2011 - AMD requires 1.25x clock performance and 1.5x watt performance. Of course, AMD is using its 7nm production process which helps reduce power consumption and allows more transistors to operate more in a limited amount of space.
AMD tells us that the design of its GPU is completely new and much more efficient. The execution pipeline itself is more efficient and flexible, and has a new cache hierarchy that makes it easier to get data and instructions where needed.
Along with AMD's Ryzen 3000 Series processors, AMD also brought PCIe 4.0 support to the Radeon RX 5700 Series GPU. This standard doubles the theoretical limit of each PCIe tape, for 16 gigabits per tape total. It's not immediately relevant to gamers, but AMD says that you can now see the benefits of bandwidth-intensive tasks such as playing 8K 60fps video.
One major missing thing is any form of acceleration of the beam trail. Nvidia is hip to the feature with its GeForce RTX series, and this list of current and upcoming games that support ray detection. It can be a niche, and not important for basic game mechanics, but will be important in the next few years.
Instead, AMD introduced what it called Radeon Image Sharpening (RIS). It is an algorithmic image quality adjustment filter based on adaptive contrast sharpening.
